Church Shopping 101
Finding just the right church can be a daunting task! You want the Lord to lead you to just the right place where you can thrive in life and ministry—like you, one that has a passion and commitment for life-to-life disciplemaking—a place where you can grow, belong, and serve.
In a word, you want a FAITHFUL church—one that is faithful to the Scriptures, one that empowers you to be a faithful, fruitful harvest worker (Matthew 9:35-38).
As a quick “Church Shopping 101” tool, we offer eight helpful tips that spell out FAITHFUL:
Focus. Is the church focused on Jesus the Way, Truth, and Life? (John 14:6)
Add value. Is the church a place where God can grow and use you? (Ephesians 2:10)
Intercession: Is the church desperately dependent upon Jesus? (1 Timothy 2:8)
Trustworthy: Is the church accountable (e.g., financial integrity)? (Malachi 3:10)
Humility. Is the church a community that highly values each individual? (Philippians 2:3)
Foster community. Is the church living in light of the “one another” verses? (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Understand views. Is the church relevant to culture, faithful to Scripture? (Matthew 10:16)
Leadership. Is church leadership modeling Jesus to the glory of God? (Colossians 3:23)
Remember the words of Jesus: “ . . . I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). May the Lord use these tips to help guide you to just the right church home—again, a place where you can thrive in life and ministry!
